Reliable Economy Car by GinaGravy from Oak Harbor, WA on 01/28/2013. Trim: 2003 Pontiac Sunfire Coupe, Owned 1 year.

Pros: This vehicle gets fairly good gas mileage, around 23 city and 32 highway the way I drive (I accelerate quickly) and it has not given me any problems at all in the 8,000 miles I've had it. The car is fairly sporty looking as well.
Cons: The vehicle doesn't have much headroom, and the backseat is very small. It isn't very fast either, but its about what I would expect from a 2.2L.
Overall review: Overall, this car has worked out very well for me. Very reliable. It would make a good commuter or first car. It is a good car for the price.

Reliable, Good-Looking and Economical AMERICAN Made Coupe by GuinsGuy from Pittsburgh, PA on 01/06/2012. Trim: 2003 Pontiac Sunfire Coupe, Owned 6 years.

Pros: Actually not a bad car. Overall, there are lots of good things to say about Sunfires. They are an attractive coupe that has reasonable size and performance. The 2.2 liter DOHC Ecotec + 4L65E auto trans. always worked well for me. Granted, there was a bit of a "dead zone" after it shifted up but, overall, the car accelerated strong. Reliability was pretty good as I put 140,000K on it without major systems' problems before WalMart finally screwed up an oil change and killed it (YES, you read that right !) Gas mileage was a little bit disappointing in stop-n-go driving (25 MPG average) but on the highway, I could cruise control it at 70 MPH and do 35 MPG! Averaged about 315 miles per tank.
Cons: To be fair, there are some things to dislike. Fit and finish, as can be expected from GM small cars up until the last couple of years, were not as good as they could be. Body panel gaps weren't linear but the actual clearcoat finish of the car was beautiful. Interior gaps were there as well and the upholstery didn't hold up to wear very well at all, to be honest. My main dislike involved the brakes. Granted, a front drive vehicle is going to be harder on brakes, particularly when they're front disc/rear drum designs, but this car was terrible on brakes. New front pads every 15K, rotors every 30K. That was the most frustrating part of ownership. Pontiac needed to use bigger brakes.
Overall review: Overall, if you're looking for the "ultimate" this or that in terms of a car, the Sunfire won't do it. If, however, you want a reasonably priced, nice looking and fairly solid economy coupe, this is a really good choice. It's surprisingly sporty in its handling and won'y punish you at the pump. Parts are readily available everywhere so if something breaks, you're not going to have a mechanic tearing his hair out trying to find a part (ask any VW owner/mechanic about THAT scenario). Because this car was nearing the end of its life cycle by 2003 (2005 was the last model year), Pontiac loaded them up well in my experience. It's rare to find one without the sport suspension (205/55R16 tires) and lots of power features. Most of them have ABS and fog lighting as well. Convenience features generally include a nice moonroof and a good factory sound system. My 2003 had OnStar, which is fantastic piece-of-mind so make sure you look at the rearview mirror for this feature when evaluating one.

Pros: (No data provided)
Cons: Noisy, Slow, Poor Workmanship
Overall review: Held up very poorly in front end collision, has costed me hundreds of dollars to fix factory defects, So much money for such a peice of junk! Wastes tons of gas. I will never buy a pontiac again, to slow, unreliable and small for my taste.

Pontiac Sunfire Review by AZ Pennsylvania on 02/19/2005. Trim: 2003 Pontiac Sunfire Coupe, Owned 1 year.

Pros: The pontiac sunfire is a great starter vehicle. It has a sporty attractive exterior and is great handling/ fun to drive. If you are looking for a good attractive car for the money this is it. The red is the best color available in my opinion. Very sporty/ eyecatching for the price. First time i drove the vehicle off the lot was getting lots of ( Hey nice car ) from people on the road and at red lights. If you want to settle with a sporty vehicle thats not as high priced go with this. It has an excellent sound system and comfortable seats in the front of the vehicle. Unique eyecatching grill. Overall performance and handling- 9.
Cons: The vehicle is to small inside. The front drivers seat and passenger seat is ok but the back is very tiny and the seats are hard to move if you want to have a passenger in the back seat. The windows arent automatic, you have to roll them down. The interior is cloth with designs- not my favorite interior but still decent/nice. Biggest complaint is the size.
Overall review: Overall very nice car for the money. Attractive features/ great handling. (FACT)- a pontiac sunfire has less air resistance than a stealth bomber. - good handling/control.
