Well-designed, but Underwhelming product quality by Nate from Aurora, CO on 04/05/2012. Trim: 2003 Ford Focus Wagon ZTW, Owned 9 years.

Pros: I bought my ZTW based on reviews here. It is quiet, smooth, and has CAVERNOUS cargo space with the back seats folded flat. First, I've carried a full-sized recliner, then an office desk without removing the legs! The fuel mileage ratings can be met with very careful, unloaded, light-pedaled driving. My favorite feature of this car is the amazing lack of interior noise it has for an economy-sized car. Interior upholstery is reasonably robust, and the gauges are easy to read.
Cons: The powertrain build quality of my ZTW was disappointing, to say the least. I bought the car with only 45k on the odo., and in less than 3000 miles, the transmission shift solenoids failed! The mechanic who fixed it said he'd lost count of how many Focus transmissions he'd had to fix or rebuild from this issue. Great. Only 3000 miles, & I'm $800 out of pocket already! The second big letdown was the suspension. Sway bar links made outta dried beef jerky and cheap rubber sway bar bushings make this wagon sound like a creaky trailer-park barge! Weak struts needed to be replaced at 60k - REALLY? Most budget Korean wagons can make it to 100k without new struts, so why can't a Mazda-based Ford?
Overall review: Maybe mine was the odd lemon out of a crate full of peaches, but I'm pretty depressed at the cheap turns Ford took in the final production of this car. The body is well-assembled, and it fits all my space and practicality needs - but this car's MAJOR achille's heel is the pile of cheap suspension and drive train parts that were not built to last! The motor is strong and reliable, but when mated to a slush-box transmission with spongy brakes, and a mushy suspension - it gives the driver an underwhelming experience.

Way under rated by BC BOY on 02/03/2007. Trim: 2003 Ford Focus Wagon ZTW, Owned 4 years.
2
Pros: Really fun to drive. Never a repair required in four years. Good gas milage.
Cons: In high altitude mountain driving, the power curve on this little four banger goes flat.
Overall review: Fun to drive. Super reliability. Loaded with options, you would have to double the price to get a compareable ride!

A Great Wagon by "Paws" - West Virginia on 08/27/2006. Trim: 2003 Ford Focus Wagon SE, Owned 1 year.
2
Pros: I like the way the car handles on wet/snowy roads. The car ride smoothly, however, with the windows rolled up it is not a noisy ride, but with windows down a little noisy. I drive 500+ miles/wk in all kinds of driving conditions and overall, this is a comfortable/efficient vehicle. The only maintenance has been preventative and I have 45,000 miles so far. I had an escort wagon and the transmission in the Focus Wagon appears to be somewhat more efficient. I also like the 15" tires, higher seating that relieves strain on the back and legs. Overall, very pleasant driving experience with good highway gas mileage. Great storage area in rear, factory stereo, convenient controls.
Cons: The only thing I don't like is the lack of leg room for rear passengers.
Overall review: Overall, this is a much better vehicle than the Escort Wagon and not a bad ride for the money.

A great Wagon by Wayne from Oak Harbor WA on 02/08/2003. Trim: 2003 Ford Focus Wagon ZTW, Owned less than 1 year.
2
Pros: This vehicle is the LTW series station wagon and it has a very pleasing ride. It also is very stable in tight situations in traffic. Fit&finish are commendable inside &out. The leather seats that are heated makes it nice in the winter. The ride, handling, performance, are all great. The critics need to make a current evaluation(the last one is 2001)
Cons: None
Overall review: It is overal an Excellent car and a tremendous value for the money at under $20,000.00. Our other vehicle is a 2002 Passat Wagon.
