Problems by Dissapointed from Texas on 06/09/2003. Trim: 2002 Volvo Cross Country AWD, Owned 1 year.
7
Pros: Comfortable, good looking, practical, good stereo. Great car for long road trips.
Cons: A lot of annoying problems. Cruise control died, door locks malfunctioned, fuel door would not lock, driver's seat was loose. A lugnut came off a front wheel, center, flip-up console broke. All this within a year of purchase. Dealer service is substandard (Momentum Houston)
Overall review: Overall very disapointed with the assembly and dealer service. Hesitant about recommending the car even though I enjoy driving it.

Best Crossover you can buy by Russrdh on 01/02/2011. Trim: 2002 Volvo Cross Country AWD, Owned 9 years.

Pros: The answer to the high cost of owning an SUV. Economy is great at 28 average with a high of 35.3 from Bakersfield, Ca to Sacramento, Ca. Comfort is unbeatable.
Cons: Suspension seems a bit too soft when used as a tow vehicle. Volvo dealers seem to thik the parts are made of platinum coated gold. I have a good mechanc that services it for me at a fraction of the cost.
Overall review: At 150,000 it is as solid as the day I bought it.

The Ultimate Luxuary Family Vehicle! by Wizard of Oz from Kansas on 03/18/2008. Trim: 2002 Volvo Cross Country AWD, Owned 2 years.

Pros: Great power, great brake, trustable body construction! I had an accident at 70 mph, but only parts that had to be replaced was the front bumper, and I was okay! Very comfortable seats are perfect for a long drive. Sound systems are very nice. Very roomy back cargo area where my German Shepherd can fit comfortably.
Cons: Only cons that I have are the maintenance cost, and numerous breakdown.. I own this car for a less than 2 years, but it spent at the dealership 4 times already. Everytime the repair cost was unbelievable, but luckily, I had extended warranty (I'm rare breed that actually took advantage of extended warranty cost + more!)
Overall review: Overall, for the pros, I can swallow the cons. The mileage for my car is abour 21mpg, which is not great, but reasonable. The safety of this vehicle is one of the best pros.

Anyone Interested in Buying a Volvo? by Brian in Upper State NY on 05/21/2004. Trim: 2002 Volvo Cross Country AWD, Owned 2 years.

Pros: Volvo really softened the lines on this car. In Germany this car caught the attention of the off road crowd as well as the refined touring group on the Autobahn. The leather interior, easy access cup holders, and simplistic computer display (turn signal column) are the interior highlights.
Cons: The main drawbacks to this fine looking automobile is reliability and several cheap design flaws. In my experience, with religious service schedule adherance, the XC has flawed systems--mainly electrical. System taken in for additional 3 appts. due to non-starting--confirmed not due to driver error. Additional appts for 2 brake sensor replacements, driver side door lock motor, and gas hatch lock motor. Regarding cheap design flaws: floor mat pegs separated, dial control rubber covers split (2), center storage bin latch cracked. To date, I have not received any recalls for components for this newly designed vehicle--registered online.
Overall review: Overall, was a new design when purchased, and expected a few minor recalls. However, resulted in excess of 40 days additional maintenance past scheduled services. I expected a vehicle that cost $35K+, under 40K miles (current mileage), and more importantly from a trusted brand of Volvo to meet minimum reliability expectations. I am not into bashing companies for their products. I took the risk and now have an uphill battle. I am simply a consumer warning others to be aware. Possibly this is a lemon. We will see over the next few years when the statistics catch up. Anyone interested in buying a Volvo?

Volvo Rocks! by An MSN Autos Consumer on 10/10/2005. Trim: 2002 Volvo Cross Country AWD, Owned 1 year.

Pros: A blast to drive. Very well equipped, very comfortable.
Cons: Some of the interior trim materials don't seem to fit together very well-they gap in places.
Overall review: Love my car. Goes fast. Stops fast. Great sound system. Lots of room and conveniences for families. This car lets you feel ready for any thing the weather, the road, the traffic or your kids can dish out. And with all the nice features and styling you look good and feel good through it all.
