Nice car, but VERY POOR DRIVETRAIN by Jake on 05/22/2011. Trim: 2002 Lexus ES 300 Sedan, Owned 4 years.
1
Pros: The vehicle has a rich feel to it without a rich price.
Cons: DRIVETRAIN. The engine has very little power unless it is completely floored. The transmission in these cars behaves the worst of any car I've owned; they only operate smoothly under certain driving conditions. It is as if the computer tries too hard to predict what the driver is wanting to do. Being in stop-and-go traffic can be a real pain with surging of the engine when you want to brake. All these problems are a result of the vehicle being an ULEV(ultra low emissions vehicle) where the computer tries to micromanage the way the car drives. One would think that this would improve fuel economy but that is still unimpressive at about 20mpg mixed driving on a very weak engine.
Overall review: If you still have a pulse, do NOT buy this vehicle for a daily driver, you will be disappointed. This vehicle is only good for long highway trips where its driveability issues are not so noticeable.

Great chick car by Bob in Denver on 01/23/2009. Trim: 2002 Lexus ES 300 Sedan, Owned 7 years.
1
Pros: Nice looking, comfortable, reliable. Good sound system. Dual memory seat systems
Cons: The engine seems under powered. We used to have a GS with the same engine, but it was more powerful. They must have de-tuned the ES. If you leave a door ajar, the automatic headlights will not go off. A problem if you park in your garage, and come in for the night, but didn't slam the door all the way closed. I wish all the doors would unlock when you put it in park and get out. Only the fronts will unlock. With the amount of money that you spend at the dealer for the regular scheduled maintentance, you may as well buy a new one each year. Cost you the same.
Overall review: This is absolutely a chick car, not made for men. (As evidence, there is a hook on the center console near the passenger's left knee. I asked what it was for...For hooking her purse straps so the purse doesn't spill over when she makes a hard turn.) But it is nice looking and runs well. We'll drive it another 5 or 6 and then turn it over to our daughter.

Love My Lexus! by Angie- Middle Tennessee on 05/31/2008. Trim: 2002 Lexus ES 300 Sedan, Owned less than 1 year.
1
Pros: This is the first luxury vehicle I have ever owned: I have always had an SUV, but with the cost of fuel skyrocketing, I made the change. Great handling, quick and smooth accelleration still with good fuel consumption (24-28mpg), rides like a dream, and plenty of room. Mine is 6 years old, but it still turns heads on the street. I don't know if I would go back to an SUV now, unless it were a Lexus RX series.
Cons: I have had some difficulty getting used to some of the "blind spots", but I believe that's mainly attributed to the fact that I am used to sitting up higher.
Overall review: Best automotive purchase I have ever made.

Back doors rattle in cold weather by Don from Ontario on 12/31/2002. Trim: 2002 Lexus ES 300 Sedan, Owned less than 1 year.
1
Pros: The interior layout is first rate and the ride is smooth. The air climate control works well.
Cons: Rattle, rattle, rattle. When it gets cold the back doors rattle incessently. It's been back to the dealer 3 times since Nov and is going back again. Rattles also above the sun visor. Radio has to be replaced, the light is failing. Service has been great but too much is too much.
Overall review: I had an Lexus RX 300. There is no comparison when it comes to problem free driving. My recomendation, take your chances. If you're in a warm climate you should be okay. But then I've only had this car 5 months!!

White Beauty by A MSN Autos Consumer on 11/15/2002. Trim: 2002 Lexus ES 300 Sedan, Owned less than 1 year.
1
Pros: Beautiful paint, sweeping style. The interior is simple and elegant. So quiet, you can't hear the engine. Great stereo. Everything fits tightly, is pleasing to the senses.
Cons: At 7500 miles the brake rotors had to be turned. Although the repair was done under warranty, very quickly and efficiently by the dealer, I was disappointed it should be happening at all. The mechanic who performed the repair said that they have seen this problem quite frequently with the 2002 model. Not quite what I had expected from a Lexus.
Overall review: Great car. Really enjoy it. Would recommend it to anyone.
