Fit and Finish Poor and Problematic by An MSN Autos Consumer on 02/25/2005. Trim: 2002 Mercury Sable Wagon LS Premium, Owned 3 years.
1
Pros: I've had many problems with this vehicle, eventually settling out of court with Ford. At only 30 miles a belt in the tire blew. For nearly a year no dealer could balance the tires properly. The headliner was incorrectly and poorly installed, had to have it replaced. Numerous unreasonable squeaks and rattles. The tires had to be replaced to try to resolve the shimmy problem. Blower motor fan replaced THREE times. Several items replaced due to Technical Service Bulletins. Jarry ride, nice on smooth road. Dual visors for each side are nice. Decent mach stereo but cumbersome to use - too many buttons. Storage galore. 6 CD changer is nice. Cruise buttons well placed.
Cons: Duratec engine has to revved high to get torque. Struggles over slight inclines in Overdrive. Sags badly when people are transported and bottoms out noticiably whether loaded or not over sight dips and where pavement meets bridges. Slips on pavement occasionally even when traction control is ON. Does not handle cornering or banking on cornering well. Fog lamps do little to increase visability.
Overall review: Do not recommend. No longer made. Several other wagons that are less problematic are available.

PROBLEM WITH ACCELERATION WHILE IN GEAR=DANGEROUS! by An MSN Autos Consumer on 03/30/2003. Trim: 2002 Mercury Sable Wagon LS Premium, Owned 2 years.

Pros: I like everything.ALMOST!
Cons: Owned 1.5 years or so now and nothing really wrong except I stopped one time and the car surged while in gear with foot on brake and it was pretty severe and has not done it again, yet, but we almost hit the car in front of us.THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND I HAVE HEARD OF OTHER FORDS AND MERCURYS DOING THIS AND THE DEALER DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT.ANYONE HAVE PROBLEMS LIKE THIS? ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Overall review: GOOD ,STILL LIKE CAR BUT THAT SURGING WILL KILL SOMEONE AND FORD WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT IS NOT DOING IT WHEN I TAKE IT TO THEM.

Great Top of the Line Wagon by Steve from Littleton on 03/02/2003. Trim: 2002 Mercury Sable Wagon LS Premium, Owned 1 year.

Pros: We bought the Sable Wagon in July 2002 - at the end of the model year, and got an excellent deal. It is my wife's car, and she has driven it about 7,000 miles as of Feb 2003. The car handles great. There is plenty of power, and the 16" wheels help the ride and handling. We have full leather seating. It is nice, but a little on the firm side. Still, I like it. Also, the sound system is great. Full range of sound, as loud as you want it without fear of blowing speakers.
Cons: There is a great heating/air conditioning system. It is a single control, not dual controls or front/rear. They should add that feature. There is lots of room in the back seat for my very big 18 year old son, and lots of room in the way back to carry stuff. My 13 year old daughter likes riding in the rear facing seat in the way back whenever we get 5 or more people in the vehicle. Unfortunately, anyone any larger or older can't access the 3rd row seating.
Overall review: This car has nearly all of the bells and whistles at a reasonable price. We are very happy with our new station wagon.
