If I had to do it all over again, I would.
by Salt Lake Wolf on 08/07/2011.
Trim: 2002 Honda Odyssey EX, Owned 9 years.

Pros:
Good all-around vehicle--does lots of things well. Comfortable, versatile, dependable. Plenty of power.
Cons:
I did have the dreaded trans problems at about 135k miles, even after meticulous maintenance. Dealer wanted $4000+ to replace trans and computer. Took it to a trans specialty shop (AAMCO) they replaced a temp sensor for around $300 and it's been fine ever since. Some odds & ends minor maintenance stuff, but nothing unexpected on a 10 yr old vehicle with 100k+ miles. Brakes could be stronger/bigger.
Overall review:
Overall, very pleased after 10 yrs and 136k miles. We've driven it all over the country and took it to Germany when stationed there--it even did well on the Autobahn. If you're looking at buying one, check the transmission service history, and the function of the sliding side doors.

Totally inadequate vehicle.

Pros:
Really nice to look at.
Cons:
This has been the worst vehicle purchase ever. We paid for a top of the line Honda, and all we got was a lemony headache. Worst of all, the transmission, we left Chrysler and came to Honda thinking it would be better, since there vehicles have such a high reputation, but guess what failed first. The power window regulators all failed. The a/c went out, and the ride is absolutely miserable.
Overall review:
This is one of the worst vehicles that we have ever owned and will not be repeating. Everytime we go in to do an oil change, we end up spending 125$. I think that I will be goin to Dodge again. Yea, it is that bad!

excellant mini van
by brea dave on 06/13/2012.

Pros:
great power, smooth shifting transmission, great visability, incredible quality, such a solid, well built car, just sold mine for $11,000,
it had 63 thousand miles on it. we really loved the car, but we sold it to friends so i will still see it sometimes. it was so reliable, nothing broke till it had 60 thous miles on it, the back 2 window motors wouldn't work, fixed under the 7 yr extended warranty for free. i didn't have any transmission problems ,i see so many of them on the roads. we really took good care of the vehicle, just replaced it with an '012 sienna XLE, another great van
Cons:
i really have nothing to complain about, but be leary of buying a high mileage one, be leary of the trans problems, so MANY of them need new trans and the are NOT cheap. my sons went out at 56k miles. i can't really think of anything else i didn't like about it. it was a great van
Overall review:
i just loved it, was sad to see it go, it was like part of the family, honda makes great vehicles

DON'T BUY HONDA VANS!
by I'veHadIt5Years on 02/13/2007.
Trim: 2002 Honda Odyssey LX, Owned 6 years.
1
Pros:
The reason we bought this vehicle was its (presumptive) reliability.
Cons:
Every major system has failed. Many of them have failed more than once. Our dealer didn't even inform us of a recall during the window for replacement of the transmission, and now it's out, too. They want 5,300 to fix it! I'm through spending money on this! I actually spent less on maintenance/repairs on a 1997 Caravan that I drove for 150,000 miles!
Overall review:
This is a horrible money pit. The dealer "network" employs ill-informed staff (perhaps not the dealer's fault as much as Honda's). The problems I've had with the power doors, the transmission, the electrical components, the ignition, and the steering system HAVE NEVER BEEN FIXED, DESPITE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. I believe the problems are simply irreparable. Honda hasn't fixed them in any subsequent model, either.

BAAAD TRANSMISSION - DO NOT BUY
by DBAGuy Salt Lake City on 07/17/2006.
Trim: 2002 Honda Odyssey LX, Owned 4 years.

Pros:
nice size, good power
Cons:
At 60,000 the transmission went out. Dealer replaced only charging labor - $1000. Very bad of Honda to put out this junk
Overall review:
Do not buy this model. The transmission will fail and Honda is not admitting the problem with 2002 model. Only 2001. DO NOT BUY
