Owner
Great fuel economy!
by Wayne in Texas on 12/23/2005.
Trim: 2002 GMC Safari Passenger Van, Owned 3 years.
Useful?
Pros:
Easy on the gas and great for traveling cross country.
Cons:
I bought one with a conversion package (raised top, wood trim, TV/VCP, etc). What I did not realize was that GMC sends a basic white, striped down van to the conversion company who puts the custom paint, windows, seats, seatbelts, carpet, everything...inside the van. When I had a problem with my seatbelts, GMC would do nothing to fix them, blaming the conversion company (who had gone out of business).
Overall review:
For the part of the van that is GMC's responsibility, GREAT! For the conversion package, NO. I will never buy another vehicle with a conversion package on it. They raised the top just high enough that it won't fit into my garage and GMC will not accept responsibility for anything that is part of the conversion package. I highly recommend GM products, just steer clear of the add-ons.

Owner
excellent van for towing and general use
by Bob from Edmonton, Alberta on 09/02/2004.
Trim: 2002 GMC Safari Passenger Van AWD, Owned 2 years.
Useful?
Pros:
- lots of cargo room
- comfortable seats
- excellent towing capacity
- great visibilty due to high seats
Cons:
- narrow footwells in front
- standard Uniroyal Tiger Paws have terrible traction
- rear tinted windows and high buckets limit rear visibility
- mileage could be better
Overall review:
Bought this vehicle because we needed the searting cpacity of a van and also wanted to purchase a larger trailer. My wife drives it all week around town and loves it. Has been very reliable. Only real expense was replacing terrible, no traction Tiger Paw tires with stronger SUV type tires.

2002 GMC Safari Van
by Harry from LV on 08/18/2004.
Trim: 2002 GMC Safari Passenger Van, Owned 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
Great Drivetrain!!! Superb Power from the engine. Plenty of room for a family of six, plus the extras you need to for a long weekend of traveling.
Cons:
The fit and finsh is in question, if GM could fix those problems, I'd buy another, but as it stands now, I'll purchase another GM product
or go to another brand when it is time for another vehicle
Overall review:
The drivetrain is excellent, this is one of the strong points with the GM truck/SUV/Van line, but the fit and finish of the vehicle is in serious question. GM needs to take a serious look at these issues if they want to achieve ultimate sucess with the Safari/Astro
van models. Work on the chassis/interior reliability issues and they would have scored 10 straight across the board as far as value
and overall performance of a (possible) perfect family vehicle

The Lemon of the country
by Joyce from Houston, TX on 01/13/2004.
Trim: 2002 GMC Safari Passenger Van, Owned 2 years.
Useful?
Pros:
The van is a nice size for a larger family. Great for long trips.
Cons:
This van is the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned. The engine has constant problems. This van has been in the shop 4 times in 16 month. That is pretty sad.
Overall review:
This is the worst vehicle I have ever owned. I would never recommend anyone to purchase this LEMON. Can not wait to
get rid of it.
