The 2002 Ford F-150 w/ FX4 and 5.4L engine! by Trenton on 02/22/2003. Trim: 2002 Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCab Short Bed 4WD, Owned 1 year.

Pros: This is the best truck on the planet because it is manufactured by Ford and it flat out blows away the Chevys and Dodges in look and performance. Another great feature is the interior. The leather and heated seats keep you comfortable on long hauls when you are towing more than a Chevy or Dodge can handle. Also, the six CD changer will keep you jammin' the whole trip. Another great feature, new for 2002, is the FX4 Offroad package. It consist of skid plates, Rancho Shocks(which add lots of style), 4X4, bigger tires, and other essential options for offroading.
Cons: I have not found any cons about this truck.
Overall review: Whether you're offroading, hunting, fishing, towing boats, or driving through a winter storm, the Ford F-150 with the FX4 package will get you to your destination and back with no problems.

FX/4 Lariat by Bill on 08/04/2011. Trim: 2002 Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCrew Short Bed 4WD, Owned 9 years.

Pros: Nice looking and nice riding. I have several vehicles and a lot newer but enjoy driving my pickup.
Cons: The thing is a rust bucket. I garage and take care of my vehicles but this truck all of the sudden has started to rust in the rockers. The truck needs to be replaced and I guess I will look at Dodge or GM.
Overall review: At 60,000 miles these trucks start to cost money to keep up. After owning atleast 50 plus vehicles I don't think I would recommed a Ford.

Fix Or Repair Daily by Zap Lubbock/Austin on 03/22/2011. Trim: 2002 Ford F-150 XL Short Bed 2WD, Owned 3 years.

Pros: Okay first vehicle (got mine when I turned 16).
Cons: 4.2L Engine - Blew lower manifold ($1200 part from Ford) at 94,XXX miles. -Electrical issues with the intake at 103,XXX miles. -Poor gas mileage (4.6L gets better gas mileage) Transmission (M5R2) -slave cylinder ruptured at 74,XXX miles (around $300 just to drop the transmission, $80 to replace slave cylinder) -throwout bearing failed at 95,XXX miles ($300 to drop the transmission, $350 for a new clutch kit) -synchronizers are failing in the transmission (115,XXX miles) Drivetrain -U-Joints failed (67,XXX and 101,XXX miles) Suspension -does not handle extra weight very well (ie. Replacement bumpers, headache rack, bigger tires) Other -wind noise in the cab vehicle is unbearable
Overall review: Got this truck when I turned 16 with 67,XXX miles on it. 3 years later it has 121,XXX miles on it and runs very poorly. Because of all of the problems with the engine, transmission and electrical system that I've had with the truck in the past, I no longer trust it to drive the 400 miles between school and home. If I had to get another F150 ever again, not planning on buying another Ford for a very long time because of this truck, I'd say the manual transmission is frankly...crap, along with 4.2L V6 and would make sure not to get either. Otherwise I'd say your better off getting a Dodge or Chevrolet if your looking for a domestic truck.
