Founded in 1920 as a cork manufacturer, Mazda now sells cars and trucks in more than 120 countries. Mazda entered the U.S. market in 1970. Many Mazda vehicles sold in the U.S. are produced here as well, and 13 percent of its stock is owned by the Ford Motor Co. Mazda has a long history of offering rotary-engine vehicles, and that continues today with the world’s only rotary-engine vehicle, the RX-8. Mazda’s small and midsize passenger cars and crossover SUVs are characterized by a sporty personality inspired by the company’s “soul of a sports car” and “zoom-zoom” ad slogans.
