The first production Land Rover was built in England and introduced in 1948 at the Amsterdam Auto Show. In 1986 Range Rover of North America was established in Maryland, with the first U.S.-specification models hitting the market the following year. In 1992 the name was changed to Land Rover North America. After being purchased by the BMW Group in 1994, Land Rover was sold to Ford Motor Company in 2000 and became part of their Premier Automotive Group, which includes Aston Martin, Jaguar and Volvo.
